SYRACUSE, Ind — February will bring many new programs for adults at the North Webster Community Public Library, 301 N. Main St.
Feb. 4 at 10 a.m., a class to learn how to make greeting cards will be offered. The cost for the class is $5, which includes supplies to make one card. Advance registration is required by calling the library at 834-7122 or stopping in at the desk.
On Feb. 9, a beginning crocheting class will begin at 5:30 p.m. Just sign up and bring a crochet hook and some yarn. There is no cost for the crochet class.
Feb. 11 at 10 a.m., the class Cooking on a Shoestring will be offered at a cost of $5. Register in advance at the front desk. A beginning genealogy class will be offered Feb. 16 and Feb. 18. Both classes will start at 3:30 p.m. This class is free. Registration is necessary.
Fund-raiser
Wawasee High School Athletic Department, the Wawasee Kiwanis Club plus several other local organizations are hosting a fund-raiser supper for Derk and Kay Kuhn Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. or until sold out. The event will be held at the high school, door six.
The Kuhns, who both have cancer, have been great supporters of Wawasee sports and athletics, according to school athletic officials. The menu will include Grill-N-Grate barbecue sandwich, baked beans, chips and bottled water for $6.
Chamber board reorganizes
The Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce recently had to replace five positions, including two board members who resigned and three others whose terms had expired. The reorganization took place at a recent board meeting.
Beth Kroes, who began last year as board president and temporarily stepped aside in the spring, has made her resignation permanent. Mike Rourke has also resigned his board position.
The three-year terms of Matthew Schwartz, Sylvia Gargett and Sharon Sanders expired at the end of December. Kathy Boyts, who has served as interim president, now has that position until the end of Kroes’ term which is December. Andrew Grossnickle accepted the vice-president position and Chip Erwin remains secretary.
According to the Chamber’s by-laws, the board must have a minimum of 11 members and a maximum of 15. Other board members currently serving include Tom Tuttle, Richard Owen, Dan Buchman, Amy Rensberger, Kristi Plikerd, Kip Schumm, Cindy Niles and Lori Richcreek, which brings the total to its minimum of 11.
The board did discuss specific people to fill a couple of more positions and hopes to have at least one more member for the board’s approval at its February meeting.
