South Bend woman killed in crash


A 73-year-old woman South Bend woman died and five others were hurt in a car-truck crash at C.R.s 11 and 28 northwest of Goshen Tuesday afternoon.

Gloria Carr was pronounced dead at the scene after rescue crews from Wakarusa, Harrison Township and Concord Township responded to the crash shortly after 4 p.m.

According to a report by officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Carr was driving her 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier east on C.R. 28 when she stopped at the intersection marked by a two-way stop sign for travelers of C.R. 28.

Ryan Wilkinson, 36, of Albion, was traveling south on C.R. 11 in his 2008 Ford F 150 pick-up truck when Carr pulled into his path. Traffic traveling on C.R. 11 is not required to stop at the intersection.

A Med-Flight helicopter was initially dispatched, but eventually called off.

Carr’s passenger, Kimberly Rayl, 43, of South Bend, and Wilkinson’s passengers, Juan Arambula Jr., 33, of Auburn; Richard Aramula, 58, of Fort Wayne; and Alan Williamson, 37, of Columbia City were all transported to Goshen General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Carr was treated at the scene.

Both drivers and each of their passengers were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
