“Rhythm & Rhyme Time: Special Programs for Kids with Special Needs” is planned at the library Saturday and on Sept. 29 at 10 a.m.
Families with children having special needs are invited to this two-part children’s series featuring double visuals, stories, music and other activities. Children of all agesare invited, accompanied by their parents. Siblings are also welcome.
While geared for children all types of special needs, the primary audience for this type of program is children on the autism spectrum.
Storytime Express
Storytime Express is set for Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Library staffers say attendees will be going “someplace special.” Stories. fingerplays, songs and a craft activity are planned. This free program is recommended for children ages 2 to 5.

On the move
Some collections in the library have been moved to a new location. Patrons needing help locating an item can ask the clerk at the circulation desk.
Cake pans
New cake pans available for checking out. Kathy Schlipf donated the assortment of cake pans to the library in hopes staffers could make them available to patrons.
Cake pans can be checked out for one week. Many of the pans include a color instruction sheet on how to decorate a cake. The new collection is located in the nonfiction area of the adult department.
‘Paws to Read’
Children are invited to the library to read stories to Whisper the dog. Whisper will be at the library Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. Sign-up is available at the children’s desk. Each child will have 20 minutes to read to Whisper.
Community cookbook
Friends of the Library invite members of the Milford community and anyone with connections to Milford, past or present, to share some of their favorite recipes to be included in the “Milford Community Cookbook.”
Recipe forms are available at the library or recipes may be submitted electronically by e-mailing them to mpl.cookbook@gmail.com. Recipes must be submitted by Oct. 1. This is a fundraising project coordinated by the Friends of the Library to support programs of the Milford library.

Storytime and Lullababies
Children ages 9 months through 6 years old are invited to meet at the Nappanee library in September for the return of Storytime and Lullababies.
Preschoolers age 3 to 5 will meet on Sept. 5, 12 and 19 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. or 1 to 1:45 p.m. to hear about Clifford, the Big Red Dog. Toddlers, ages 2 to 3 will meet from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 6, 13 and 20, to hear about Elmer the Elephant. Children will take part in games, songs, crafts and other activities in both sessions.
The Lullababies lapsit program also returns Sept. 4, 11 and 18, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. This group for children ages 9 to 24 months offers babies and caregivers the chance to interact with each other through songs, fingerplays, rhymes and more.

Book club
The Cover to Cover Book Club will meet Sept. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. to discuss “Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883” by Simon Winchester.
Winchester, New York Times bestselling author of “The Professor and the Madman,” examines the annihilation in 1883 of the volcano-island of Krakatoa, which was followed by an immense tsunami that killed nearly 40,000 people. The eruption helped to trigger in Java a wave of murderous anti-Western militancy among fundamentalist Muslims, one of the first outbreaks of Islamic-inspired killings anywhere.

Drawing winner
The DVD “Where Dreams Come True,” a “Dream” frog plant stake, an eye shade with earplug set, and a royal blue book bag were prizes received by Jean Kronk for participating in the Audiobook month drawing.
Pre-GED classes
Library staffers, in cooperation with the Wa-Nee Community School Corp., are offering pre-GED classes.
Students will attend 10 Monday sessions from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the library meeting room. Classes will begin on Sept. 24 and continue until Nov. 26.
A retired Wa-Nee school teacher will be leading the sessions. A deposit of $25 is required when registering.
Story Hour and
Toddler Time
Registration has begun for fall session of Story Hour and Toddler Time. Children ages 3 years to 5 years can register for either the Monday or Tuesday Story Hour. Children ages 24 to 36 months may register for Toddler Time.
The first Story Hour sessions are set for Sept. 24 and Sept. 25 at 10:15 a.m. Toddler Time children and their accompanying adults will begin their program on Sept. 26 at 10 a.m.

Children’s fall programs
Starting today, sign up is available for Babies and Books (for children 18 months old and younger), Toddler Time (18 to 36 months) and Pre-School Story Time (ages 3 to 5). These programs start the week of Sept. 4. The Home School Club (for children in kindergarten through sixth grade) starts Sept. 10.
‘Yak, Snack and Read’
The next book discussion sessions will be on Tuesday at 1 and 7 p.m. The “Night Yak” will be discussing “Swamplandia” by Karen Russell, and the “Day Yak” will be discussing “A Secret Gift” by Ted Gup.
