Dean Devoe earns Purdue ‘Pride’ award

The Purdue Alumni Association presented the 2012 Boilermaker Pride Award to Dean DeVoe from the Purdue Club of Elkhart County at the celebration dinner during Alumni Weekend Sept. 28. The event was held at Purdue University in West Lafayette.

DeVoe is a 1972 graduate of the Krannert School of Management and a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association. He is one of the founding members of the Purdue Alumni Club of Elkhart County, according to the alumni association. He served the club as its second president and then served on the club’s board of directors for an additional six years.

DeVoe led the effort to create a foundation that manages the club’s scholarship funds and served as its president for three years. He has been instrumental in leading the organization in its efforts to raise scholarship funds for Elkhart County students attending Purdue. In the past eight years, the club has given out 209 scholarships worth $136,500.

DeVoe is and has been a leader in promoting Purdue in many ways and has been extremely active in bringing the Purdue Glee Club to Elkhart County. Both involved in PMO as students, he and his wife, Jane (a 1972 graduate), continue to support and promote all PMO organizations and encourage local students to consider PMO organizations while at Purdue.

In addition to these activities, DeVoe serves on the committee for corporate gift giving and organizes and conducts the club’s annual Scholarship Awards Event. He and Jane annually underwrite the club’s sponsorship of the Salvation Army Pancake Day and promote activities for Purdue at the Elkhart County 4-h Fair.

Established in 2005, this award was introduced to recognize a club leader who has contributed time and service to the alumni club program and the Purdue Alumni Association for 10 years or more. Requirements include current or previous service as a club officer and being a current Purdue Alumni member.
