MIDDLEBURY —
The public is invited to take a guided walking tour of downtown Middlebury Aug. 9.
Led by Elkhart County Historical Museum staff, tour attendees will see numerous historical buildings and hear about Middlebury’s long history. Tour-goers can choose from a 6 p.m. tour or a 7:30 p.m. tour.
Visitors will hear some of the stories from Middlebury’s past, including the destruction of tavern row.
“The temperance movement was strong in Middlebury, so it is no surprise that the tavern row mysteriously burned to the ground one night,” said Museum Manager Matthew Schuld.
The tour will cover historical themes related to the people, buildings, and neighborhoods of Middlebury and how these have changed overtime.
The Middlebury Community Historical Museum will also have special open hours the evening of the tour.
The Middlebury Walking Tour will begin and end on East Winslow Street across the street from the Middlebury Public Library (north of the public library). Advance registration for the walking tour is required. Admission is $1 per person.
