GOSHEN —
A fire left the home at 204 N. Eighth St. at a possible total loss, according to Goshen Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott McDowell.
The fire, which is still under investigation, was called in by a neighbor at 1:09 p.m., according to McDowell. The neighbor said they had seen the occupant of the home nearby recently, so they didn’t know if he was inside the home or not.
“It was a reported house fire, and we had conflicting information about whether or not there were occupants inside,” he said. “We sent in two teams, and our search was negative — there was no one inside.”
The fire started on the first floor of the home. McDowell said it took crews 47 minutes to get the fire under control.
“We should know what happened in a couple of days from the investigation,” he said.
McDowell said he knew for certain that the fire was not drought-related, but that residents should take caution in times as dry as these are.
“The ban is still in effect,” he said. “That may be problematic with the Fourth of July coming up, but we shouldn’t have fireworks. Follow the burn ban.”
