Kosciusko County deputies are investigating what appears to be a father-son suicide and house fire Monday.
Police reported that at 12:29 p.m., a shooting was reported at 1421 S. 800 West, north of Mentone Officers found Nicholas D. Lowry, 18, had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Lowry had just returned home from Burket Educational Center, where he had been a student, officers reported.
At 11:42 p.m. that same day, a 911 call came in about a house fire at the same location.
Officers arrived and found the home engulfed in flames. They also discovered Lowry’s father, David D. Lowry, 53, dead at a picnic table from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Firefighters from Mentone, Atwood, Etna Green, Burket and Claypool responded the fire, which consumed the home and all of the out-buildings.
The investigation continues.
