GOSHEN — Merv Chupp, who opened Maple City Wholesale at The Old Bag Factory last month, said he thought about starting the business a year ago, but recently found the inspiration.
“My daughter inspired me,” he said. “I thought Goshen could use a wholesale/factory overstock store.”
The business is in part of the former woodworking shop on the lower level of The Old Bag Factory, with plenty of room for expansion, Chupp pointed out.
Chupp, who lives at Foraker, said his wife, Glenda, has run the Trolly Cafe at the Old Bag Factory for the past eight years.
He said he buys closeout products from across the Midwest, a semi-load at a time.
Chupp now offers shoes, housewares, exercise equipment, toys, bedding and Notre Dame apparel.
“The Notre Dame clothing is 50 percent off,” Chupp said this week, while much of the other stock is about 70 percent off regular prices.
“Eventually I want to get office equipment and tools,” he said. The few tools he had stocked were sold quickly.
Chupp’s store is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
