Online TV channel coming to Goshen

GOSHEN — Tuesday afternoon, Adam and Megan Fleming were gearing up for a debut. In a sense, they were also counting down.

“Things are hopping!” Megan said at the couple’s home office in Goshen.

The Flemings own Goshen TV, a new Web-based TV channel. Adam said the channel will provide live streaming of city, arts and entertainment and school events. The site is at www.citylinktv.com/goshen-tv, and includes a calendar of upcoming live events.

“Our grand opening will be this Friday night,” he said. “We’re going to broadcast from 5 to 6 (p.m.) during First Fridays.” That coverage will include interviews with people downtown. Also Friday, Goshen TV will do live streaming from the Bethany-Elkhart Christian basketball game shortly after 7 p.m.

Looking to the future, Adam said, “We are open to people contacting us with events they’d like to stream.” The Flemings also said events would be archived on the site for viewing later.

The Flemings are also looking to provide live streaming of musical performances.

“There are some technical issues that we have to overcome before we do that,” Adam said. “But it won’t be long.”

Adam is a leadership coach, and originally bought into the Web franchise to facilitate that effort. As for expanding the site’s focus to include civic and arts happenings, Adam said, citylinktv owner Cliff Hancock of Missouri suggested “these are the things that work really well.”

“So we’re trying to follow the model, as well,” Adam added. More than 100 communities are featured on citylinktv.com, the Flemings report.

As part of their Web project, the Flemings would also like to reach the local church community.

“One of the things we’re especially excited about in the early going is being able to provide separate channels on citylinktv for churches,” Adam said. Through those channels, the Flemings indicated, shut-ins, missionaries and people on vacation or business travel would be able to watch church services in real time.

Broadcasting is a new venture for the Flemings. Megan’s a painter. In addition to being a leadership coach, Adam’s an author and the former publisher of Michiana Art News.

“I never think that I can’t do something,” Adam said. “...We decided that we wanted to do this this year, and we’re going to.”

As the launch of Goshen TV drew closer, there was excitement and a bit of finger-crossing at the Fleming household this week.

“It’s going to be a very interesting weekend,” Adam said. “But we feel confident that we have something of value to provide the community.”
