Entries needed for photo contest

GOSHEN — A call for entries has been issued by the Elkhart County Parks for its annual Elkhart County Parks photo contest. This year the Elkhart County Parks Photo Contest is celebrating its 33rd year.

Over those years, local, amateur photographers have submitted an array of photography of the Elkhart County Parks, nature and the local landscape.

Photographers of all ages can enter up to three photographs in each of the following categories:

In the Air — Photos in this category must portray images of an atmospheric subject. Some subjects that may be included are clouds, fog, mist, rainbows or sundogs. Photos in this category do not have to be taken within the Elkhart County Parks.

Nature of the Photo — In this category, photographs depicting the beauty of Michiana plants and wildlife will be judged. Photos in this category do not have to be taken within the Elkhart County Parks.

Activities in the Parks — Pictures in this category can include visitors, facilities, staff or landscapes of the Elkhart County Parks. Parks for this category include Ox Bow, Bonneyville Mill, River Preserve, Cobus Creek, Elkhart County Historical Museum, Treasure Island, Wolf Lake, Turkey Creek, Pumpkinvine Nature Trail or Six Span Bridge boat launch.

Youth Category — Entries for this category will be selected from all three existing categories. Photographers must be 16 years of age or younger to be considered. Photographs will be judged in their perspective category and then separated for judging in the Youth Category.

Awards

Awards in the form of gift certificates from the co-sponsors will total more than $500.

Entry forms are available at the Elkhart County Parks office at 211 W. Lincoln Ave., Goshen, and at the following co-sponsor locations: Elkhart — Concord Mall, ABC Warehouse, The Picture Show and Wal-Mart (C.R. 6 location); Goshen — ShutterHug Custom Framing; Bristol — Stone Soup Emporium and Bonney and Clyde’s Soda Shop; Mishawaka — Gene’s Camera Store and Lighthouse Imaging; South Bend — Gene’s Camera Store.

Deadline

The deadline for submission is Jan. 18, 2013, by 4 p.m.

Photographs can be submitted at the Elkhart County Parks or at the Concord Mall Information Desk during regular office hours.  

All the photographs entered in the contest will be put on display in the Community Room of the Concord Mall in Elkhart from Jan. 25 through noon Feb. 1, 2013. During the course of the display the public is invited to take part in a series of free workshops. The workshops will feature both nature and photographic topics and will provide a great opportunity to learn more about native wildlife and tricks of the trade from some of our area’s finest photographers.
