TOPEKA — A Ligonier bicyclist is dead and a Kendallville driver has been jailed after a collision Thursday morning.
According to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department, Zane Edward Scott, 28, 9567 N. 1000 East, Kendallville, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and reckless homicide.
Scott was the alleged driver of a 2002 blue Chevrolet van that was traveling west near 4685 W. 700 South, one mile from Topeka when it struck Wilmer L. Herschberger, 29, who was riding a bicycle, also westbound on the road. Police said they were called to the accident at 5:13 a.m. and found Herschberger deceased.
Police then began a search of Topeka-area factory parking lots and located a van with damage that matched the description of the one involved in the accident. They then interviewed Scott, who they say owns the van. He was then arrested on the preliminary charges.

GOSHEN — Goshen City Council members voted along party lines Tuesday to defeat a proposal by Goshen Community Schools for a 50-50 cost split between the city and the school corporation to pay for a $125,000 sidewalk expansion project.
