LaGrange’s clerk-treasurer, Michael D. Rowlison, 66, was arrested Tuesday after police searched his home and allegedly found town property.
Police arrested Rowlison on two felony charges of theft and a felony official misconduct charge. Later Tuesday night, the Town Council met and appointed Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Laurie D. Miller, temporary clerk-treasurer so she can take over the duties of the office.
The council also passed a resolution to authorize Miller and utilities clerk Jan Whetzel to sign checks in order to make a smooth transition of town business.
According to police, Rowlison was arrested after officers from the LaGrange County Sheriff’s office and LaGrange Police Department searched Rowlison’s residence at 409 S. Poplar St. in LaGrange with his permission. The officers searched his home after investigating Rowlison due to a formal complaint filed by members of the Town Council and the town attorney.
Police said they found items at the home that were allegedly purchased with town funds.
The LaGrange Sheriff’s Department said the matter is still under investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation the matter will be forwarded to the LaGrange County prosecutor’s office for review and consideration of charges.
Rowlinson was being held in jail on a $12,000 bond.
