GOSHEN — Eight local high schools were included in a report of top high schools in an annual survey by U.S. News and World and World Report magazine.
Goshen High School was ranked 12th in the state and 1,268 nationally in the U.S. News report. Concord is listed as 18th in the state and 1,621 in the national study. Fairfield was 21st in Indiana and 1,795 in the national study.
Northridge High School was listed as 27th in Indiana and 1,907 in the national report. Westview is 29th in the state and 1,998 in the U.S. News ranking.
NorthWood, Wawasee and West Noble were not ranked, but were recognized nationally by the U.S. News study. Elkhart schools were not recognized.
This is the fourth edition of the U.S. News “best high schools” rankings. The report is available exclusively online.
U.S. News partnered with the Washington, D.C.-based American Institutes of Research to conduct the study. To determine the best high schools, they were first analyzed at the state level in terms of how well students in each school performed on state assessments, taking into account the test scores of disadvantaged students who tend to score lower on tests.
The study looked at how well schools prepare students for college-level work by analyzing student success in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureat (IB) programs, both of which include college level courses.

Planners like changes to CVS parking lot
Access to the CVS at 410 S. Main St. in Goshen could soon be easier for those with disabilities following a ruling by the Goshen Plan Commission Tuesday afternoon.
During their meeting Tuesday, Goshen Plan Commission members gave their blessing to a request by CVS Pharmacy and State Permits Inc. for a major change to the CVS Planned Unit Development that seeks to reconfigure the north portion of the parking lot to increase the overall Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility of the site. The final site plan for the PUD was also approved by the commission Tuesday, and the request will now be forwarded on to the Goshen City Council with a favorable recommendation. -
Council won’t fund school sidewalks
GOSHEN — Goshen City Council members voted along party lines Tuesday to defeat a proposal by Goshen Community Schools for a 50-50 cost split between the city and the school corporation to pay for a $125,000 sidewalk expansion project.
