GOSHEN —
Residents with homes located along a section of William Drive near Liberty Court will be under a boil order beginning at 9 a.m. today.
News of the boil order was announced during a meeting of the Goshen Board of Public Works Monday afternoon. During the meeting, board members were informed that the maintenance crews will be shutting down the water valve near William Drive from 9 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday to repair a water main break.
Due to the shutdown, a boil order has been issued for the area of William Drive north of Liberty Court to 944 William Drive — an area encompassing approximately 12 homes.
After the repair has been completed, two consecutive water samples will be taken and analyzed for bacteria. Once it has been determined that the two water samples are safe, the boil order will be lifted.
Residents of homes affected by the boil order were set to receive a flier on their door indicating when the boil order has been lifted. Residents are also encouraged to check with local news organizations regularly for updates on the boil order and repair progress.
While the boil order is active, residents are asked not to drink the water without boiling it first. Residents will still be able to take showers, baths, do laundry and flush toilets while the boil order is in effect. Use of dishwashers is reportedly acceptable as long as the unit has a sanitizing cycle. Otherwise, affected residents are asked to rinse their dishes with boiled or bottled water until the boil order is lifted.
Ninth Street sidewalk replacement
In other action, board members Tuesday awarded a contract to Yaw Construction for replacement of the Ninth Street Sidewalk.
Yaw Construction submitted the lowest bid for the project at $14,373. Also submitting bids were Niblock Excavating with a bid of $15,747.64 and S&L Concrete with a bid of $16,590.
Water/Wastewater On-Call Services
Also approved were two $10,000 contracts with Donohue and Associates to provide as-needed technical assistance over the next three years for the city’s recently completed Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) water and wastewater projects.
Road closures
Two road closures were approved during Tuesday’s meeting. First to be approved was a request by Goshen City Church of the Brethren to close Clinton Street from the alley to Fifth Street from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 30, for a carnival.
Also approved was a request by the Goshen Engineering Department to close Ind. 119 from South Third Street to Indiana Avenue from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 14, for the Kids’ & Teens’ Try-Athlon event.
Fire Department promotion
Board members Tuesday voted to approve the promotion of Jason Miller to the rank of Fire Sergeant for the Goshen Fire Department. The new rank will be retroactive to June 1.
