Topeka fire station hosts benefit for ARC of LaGrange County

TOPEKA —  Saturday morning, the fire trucks had to park out front. All the firemen’s gear was hanging on the walls as the Topeka firehouse became a dining room hosting the haystack breakfast to benefit the ARC of LaGrange County.

ARC director, Deb Seman was greeting the diners at the door. “We have been wandering the county and randomly dropping off these quilting squares for people to autograph,” said Seman. “We want their autographs and their support for all of the activities and services we provide for the special needs residents of LaGrange County. We can’t do it alone. We need help from everyone. I am thrilled with the turnout for today’s breakfast.”

ARC is asking residents of LaGrange to show their support by signing their name and everyone in their family’s name on an individual quilting square.

Seman said ARC will have a big “reveal” for everyone at their annual Christmas show Dec. 10 at the Shipshewana Town Center from 6:30 to 8 p.m. (doors open at 5:30).

ARC staff have been going through many changes to their operation over the last few months. They used to be called ARC Opportunities. In order to streamline services and align their group with the state and national ARC organization, they changed their logo and their title.

Seman said she had a hard time giving up the dove logo. But she says she will get over it.

“We are now called The ARC of LaGrange County. So when people travel or move from one area to the next, they will know right away to look for ‘The ARC’ of that area. They can rest assured it should offer the same services as we did when they lived here.” In marketing terms it is called “branding” or brand recognition.

Just like customers know the menu will be the same in all of their favorite fast food chains even though they are in a different state.
