GOSHEN —
Goshen City Council members tested the waters Tuesday for possible ordinances dealing with dangerous animals and registering mo-peds.
The council took no action on the proposals Tuesday.
Council member Julia Gautsche gauged support for the idea of proposing a dangerous animals ordinance that would establish mandatory precautions dog owners would be required to take if their pets had any history of attacks.
Gautsche presented the idea after learning of a family whose 8-year-old child was seriously hurt by two dogs after the child got into an enclosed area with the dogs.
Council president Tom Stump was opposed to the idea, saying the child had entered into an area where the dogs existed. Mayor Allan Kauffman expressed some support for the idea, noting that no sanctions currently exist after somebody has been bitten by a dog.
The council also debated the idea of registering mopeds. Stump said he didn’t like the idea of putting another hardship on mo-ped drivers who often are already dealing with other financial issues. But numerous council members said they are alarmed over some of the driving habits of some mo-ped drivers.
