Elkhart County’s jobless rate dipped to 8.6 percent in May, according to figures released Friday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The county workforce numbered 96,552 last month, with 8,317 people out of work. The revised April jobless estimate for Elkhart County was 8.7 percent, with 8,265 workers unemployed out of a 94,686-person labor force.
The May jobless rate for Elkhart County marked almost a 2 percent drop from year-ago levels. The unemployment figure for May 2011 was 10.5 percent, when 9,675 workers out of a 92,528-person workforce were jobless.
