The National RV Trade Show held annually in Louisville, Ky., may be moved up on the calendar beginning in 2014.
According to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, the trade group that sponsors the show, the RVIA board voted Thursday to move the trade show to September or early October beginning in 2014. The change was requested by the RVIA’s National Show Committee.
The show committee will have to study the industry’s event calendar and the availability of the Kentucky Exposition Center, where the show is now held in early December each year.
Officials in the RV industry have pondered the future of the National RV Trade Show ever since the recession eroded attendance and as the Elkhart County Open House has shifted the way dealers view and pick products for sale in their spring and early summer seasons. The Open House is held in September each year and dealers visit the many RV manufacturers in the county where products are displayed.
Retail show
According to the RVIA, the board also instructed staff to study the possibility of conducting a five-day retail show in Southern California, beginning in the spring of 2013 if feasible, but no later than Spring 2014. This event would be in addition to RVIA’s California RV Show held in the fall.
