Elkhart man arrested on attempted murder charge


The Goshen Police Department arrested an Elkhart man in connection with the shooting of a Goshen man at Meijer Tuesday.

Hassan Mohamad Aljarah, 40, 2615 Turnberry, Elkhart, was arrested on a charge of attempted murder in the shooting of Abdulhussain Alfartusi, which occurred in the back parking lot of Meijer 4522 Elkhart Road in Goshen at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Alfartusi and Aljarah were acquaintances and had an ongoing dispute, according to Goshen Assistant Police Chief Mike McCloughen.

Alfartusi was shot in the upper torso and is listed in stable condition in an area hospital.

Aljarah was picked up in Elkhart by Goshen detectives with the assistance of Elkhart Police Department on Wednesday and on Wednesday night was charged with attempted murder and incarcerated at the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department Correction Facility.

The case has been turned over to the Elkhart County Prosecutors Office for filing of formal charges.
