Jim Miller murder timeline

Oct. 9, 2011 — Shortly after 1 a.m., Goshen police are called to 1736 Wildwood Court in reference to a “robbery in progress” call. Officers initially find Linda S. Miller severely injured inside the home. Police find Goshen College professor James S. Miller dead in his driveway.

Oct. 10, 2011 — An autopsy reveals James Miller suffered “multiple blunt force and sharp force trauma,” according to Elkhart County Coroner John White.

Oct. 11, 2011 — Goshen police release the description and an artist’s sketch of the murder suspect. The suspect is described as a “clean cut” white male 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall in his early to mid-20s. Police said Miller’s wife Linda helped an artist in compiling the sketch.

Oct. 12, 2011 — More than 300 people gather at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church for a prayer service for the Miller family.

Oct. 14, 2011 — In a press conference, Goshen Police Chief Wade Branson says there are no suspects in the Miller’s murder. He says there are persons of interest and many people have been questioned about the attack.

Oct. 21, 2011 — Goshen Mayor Allan Kauffman talks to reporters about recent violent crimes in the city, including the Miller killing. He says the rash of high-profile crimes is atypical for Goshen. According to the mayor, Chief Branson has said investigators are confident they’ll solve the Miller homicide case.

Oct. 31, 2011 — The Goshen Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 81 announces a reward fund during a press conference at Goshen City Council Chambers. The fund has been set up in hopes of it leading to an arrest in the slaying.

July 2, 2012 — Chief Branson confirms that a man who was once a “person of interest” in the Miller murder is not a suspect in the killing.
