ELKHART —
The pilot of a small airplane died in a crash while landing the plane at the Elkhart Municipal Airport at 7:53 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Elkhart police, the pilot and sole occupant of the plane, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The name of the victim was not released Wednesday night.
According to Elkhart Police Department Lt. Ed Windbigler, the pilot was a 48-year-old Caucasian. Windbigler said Federal Aviation Administrator officials were expected to arrive about 8 a.m. today to begin investigating what caused the crash.
