Goshen marching band needs public's help in winning grant

GOSHEN —

The Goshen High School Band Boosters are in the running for a $25,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant.

But they need the public’s help to win.

"Of course we’re trying to get as many votes as possible," said Rodney Chlebek, band boosters secretary. "We’re going to have this link on the band website and (have) the link distributed throughout e-mail and possibly a venue in school so we can get as much attention as we can."

Those who want to help, can go online to http://www.refresheverything.com/goshenband?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=good_luck and vote.

The money, if won, will go toward getting groups to performances paying the color guard director, additional percussion staff and trailer repair to transport equipment.

The Goshen Band Boosters is trying to raise $44,000 to get the Crimson Marching Band through its season. The boosters are dealing with the alleged embezzlement of more than $10,000 by its treasurer.

Chlebek said that booster board member Kimberly Whitehead came up with the idea.

Chlebek also produced the video that accompanies the request.

People have until Sept. 30 to vote.

"We encourage them to vote every day," Chlebek said.
