MIDDLEBURY —
LoveWay recently received a donation stemming from a collaboration between many local manufacturing companies.
This week the therapeutic equestrian center took ownership of a 2012 Lakota Horse Trailer. According to LoveWay staff, the project began with Brent Becker of Mishawaka Sheet Metal and his wife Shelley, an instructor at LoveWay. Becker contacted Lakota to share his thoughts on manufacturers uniting to donate their products to produce a trailer for the center. The idea was taken up by Lakota as owner George Thomas took the lead in making the donation a reality. He encouraged his vendors to donate the materials needed for the trailer.
Contributors to the trailer donation include: Lippert Components Inc., Mishawaka Sheet Metal, Tredit Tires, Performance Graphics/Patrick Industries, Postle Distributing and Shipshewana Harness and Supplies.
According to the organization’s staff, the horse trailer makes it possible for LoveWay to transport horses needing off-site veterinary care, pick up and deliver new and retiring horses and take ponies on field trips to area schools and nursing homes, among other expected uses of the trailer.
LoveWay Inc. Equine Assisted Services is a not-for-profit organization that specializes in the use of horses and ponies to improve the lives of children and adults with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities in the Elkhart County area.LoveWay is an accredited center of Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International and operates year round. LoveWay serves more than 200 people with special needs each year.

Planners like changes to CVS parking lot

Council won’t fund school sidewalks
GOSHEN — Goshen City Council members voted along party lines Tuesday to defeat a proposal by Goshen Community Schools for a 50-50 cost split between the city and the school corporation to pay for a $125,000 sidewalk expansion project.
