GOSHEN —
Goshen police officials are asking for community input on a survey as part of the department’s “Diversity & Inclusion” training.
The confidential survey can be filled out at www.goshencitypolice.com by clicking on “Community Survey,” according to a letter sent out by Police Chief Wade Branson. All members of the Goshen community are invited to participate through the end of the business day Friday. Survey takers will not be asked to identify themselves.
According to Branson, “Our community has changed over the years. Some say for the ‘better’ and some say for the ‘worse.’ Either way, it’s our community and your viewpoints are one of our most valuable resources. According to information from current U.S. Census data, (Goshen’s) population has grown by 8 percent and during this growth, it has become more diverse than ever before.”
Branson’s letter says the community has diversity, not only with race and ethnicity, but by demographics, including retirement communities, group homes of residents with special needs, the Goshen College community and other groups.
“In the recognition of this amazing diversity within our community,” Branson’s letter states, “the Goshen Police Department is in the process of developing Diversity & Inclusion training sessions for the entire department. We are seeking your input to assist us in our efforts to make sure that the training is relevant and beneficial to all department employees and to you and all members of the community we serve. Our objective is not to ascribe blame or innuendo to anyone, but to pinpoint consistent perceptions and issues within our city that may be impacting our ability to provide the best possible service to all of our citizens. Please be honest and candid in your responses.”
The survey is expected to take no more than 10 minutes.
