Spacious Heart Yoga has new owner

GOSHEN — Spacious Heart Yoga has a new owner and early next year will have a new location.

Angela Nisley has purchased the business from Kara Schmidt, who opened the business back in 2004. The business is located at 119 S. Main St., with the entrance from the Art Alley.

“We are expanding. We will have one room dedicated to yoga and two back spaces dedicated to l.o.l,” Nisley said.

Her business now shares space with the Live Out Loud health and fitness studio operated by Maija Stutsman. The businesses will be moving into newly-renovated space at Jefferson and Main streets early next year.

But for now, all classes continue in the historic Main Street building next to the colorful Art Alley.

Nisley began practicing yoga in 2004 and then became an instructor at Spacious Heart in 2007.

“At that point I decided that if I wanted to keep doing this I needed to get the training,” Nisley said. Which she did.

Her own entry into yoga is similar to how many others come to the exercise discipline — injuries that limit their activities. In her case she was suffering from back spasms and knee pain from playing sports. Yoga offered an alternative, safer workout.

“You can make yourself strong and more relaxed at the same time,” Nisley said.

She said many of her clients have been active in other areas, such as sports, but an injury or illness has restricted what they can do and they turn to yoga for balance, stretching and strength-building.

Spacious Heart has instructors who offer several forms of yoga, from simple learning classes to advanced intense workouts.
