Positive start for annual RV showcase

ELKHART — Recreation vehicle dealers and manufacturers have descended on Elkhart County for another dealer showcase.

This year’s fifth annual RV Open House, hosted at a number of sites down C.R. 6 and at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, began Tuesday and features most of the big names in the industry and thousands of dealers.

According to Jim Mac, communications director for Keystone RV, this is the third year for Thor Company to showcase its new products at the RV/MH Hall of Fame.

According to Mac, Thor Company is featuring products from all of its brands — Heartland, Crossroads, Keystone, Airstream, Dutchman and Thor Motorcoach. The company has 400 units on display.

“(We’ve had) a lot of dealer enthusiasm,” Mac said. “We’ve designed products to introduce at this show, it gives them a chance to see them and order them.”

Mac said there are some benefits for this show over the National RV Trade Show in Louisville, held annually in November.

“This is more space than we can get at Louisville,” he said. “Dealers can come here to Elkhart County and see products from virtually every manufacturer.”

Jeffrey Nihart, director of sales for Elkhart-based RVS Systems, says this show is growing and believes it will continue to do so.

“When you get people from out of this area to show, there is a reason for it,” he said. “This is where it all began. I just think this show is going to grow legs, I think more people are going to support it.”

Mac said participation has steadily increased each year since Thor Co. began showing in 2009.

“We like it in our backyard,” Mac said. “We think it’s good for Elkhart County to bring all these out of town visitors in.”

Nihart agreed it was good to have the show in Elkhart, where many of these companies and products are based and made.

“I remember when the show was in Elkhart at the high school,” Nihart said. “Then it was in South Bend and now it’s back again. I think it’s nice.”
