Appleberry's restaurant opens in Linway Plaza

GOSHEN — The Appleberry’s restaurant offerings started out with just breakfast items — now there is more.

The new restaurant opened in Linway Plaza April 2 in the former Pete’s Fabulous Fish location. Shawnie Nickeson and Jim Panagopoulos are the public faces of the family ownership group.

The family has operated several restaurants in Michiana over the years, most notably the “12th Street Cafe” in Mishawaka, according to Nickeson.

“When we met the people (Linway Plaza management) it just seemed to be the right connection,” Nickeson said.

Plus, the owners saw a need for a breakfast restaurant in the west Goshen area.

The restaurant first served just breakfast offerings all day and closed mid-afternoon. But customers wanted more, according to Nickeson.

She said customers asked for dinner offerings and later hours, so the restaurant will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays the hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The restaurant’s breakfast menu includes steak and eggs, three-egg omelets in a variety of tastes. Customers can also order up a customized omelet by choosing from a list of ingredients.

A breakfast feature is the “Unbelieva-bowls,” which include “Greek,” “Farmers,” “Country Fried,” “Meat Lovers,” “Mexican,” and customized offerings. All are served up with eggs, potatoes and melted cheddar cheese.

There are also pancakes, waffles, french toast and crepes on the menu.

Lunch and dinner items include hot Manhattan sandwiches, wraps and club, flame-broiled burgers, gyros, Philly beef, pork tenderloin, barbecue and chicken sandwiches. There is even a spinach pie.

There is also a coffee and tea bar where hot, iced and herbal teas and coffees and cappuccinos are offered along with the usual soft drinks and vitamin waters.

The restaurant has a large dinning room, which Nickeson sees as an asset.

“We can put tables together to accommodate parties of 10 or 12 and larger,” Nickeson said. And there is a lot of space between tables, which allows more privacy and easy access, she said.

The booths from Pete’s are still there, but the dinning area has had some renovation and new decorations and paint.
