GOSHEN —
The Paleteria La Michoacana Ice Cream Shop has officially opened in downtown Goshen with the goal of bringing a little bit of spice to the traditional ice cream eating experience.
Located at 312 S. Main St., Paleteria La Michoacana offers its patrons a variety of tasty treats including everything from fresh fruit cups and nachos to potato chips and beverages, though its specialty, of course, is ice cream — homemade, hand-dipped ice cream.
And while traditional favorites including vanilla, strawberry and chocolate are offered, La Michoacana also provides more exotic fare.
“Our specialties are our cheese, pine nut and pistachio ice creams,” employee Arceli Berez said while manning the shop early Thursday afternoon. The new shop also offers dozens of ice cream bars and popsicles sporting exotic flavors coconut and the sweet and spicy mango chili.
“We’ve actually been in the business for six years up in Elkhart,” Berez said of the shop’s origins. “The original shop, La Michoacana Neveria y Paleteria, is located at 246 W. Lusher Ave., Elkhart.”
Paleteria La Michoacana only officially opened its doors to the public March 23 in Goshen, but Berez said she has already seen a healthy response from community members stopping in to check out the shop and its offerings.
“We’ve already had a lot of curious people stop in just to take a look around and see what we have to offer,” Berez said.
Paleteria La Michoacana is open seven days a week from noon to 9 p.m.
