People call police, get arrested



Residents who called the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department because of an unwanted guest sleeping in their home were later arrested after investigating officers said they found marijuana plants in the home.

According to a sheriff’s report, residents at a home at 58608 Max Drive called police when they found an unwanted guest asleep on their living room couch.

Police arrested Shane Timmons, 21, 602 N. Harrison St., Syracuse, charging him with residential entry, a Class D felony.

As police made a sweep of the home looking for other suspects, they found six marijuana plants in the home. A search warrant was obtained and the residents, Timothy S. Welles, 24, and Amanda Malcom, 23, were charged with cultivating marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance. They were booked into the county jail and bond was set at $3,000.

Driver cited for leaving scene



A Goshen driver was cited for leaving the scene of a traffic accident early Monday morning.

According to a report by Goshen Ptl. Robert Warstler, David Rivera, 23, 266 Roxbury Park, was driving a car that struck a mobile home belonging to James E. Fox, 366 Roxbury Park, at 3 a.m. Monday. The driver fled the scene on foot but was located later. He was cited for leaving the scene of an accident.

Texas man taken in for drunk driving



A Texas driver was jailed on an alcohol charge after a traffic stop at 2 a.m. Sunday north of Elkhart.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by Domingo J. Cabrera III, 34, Temple, Texas, was stopped on C.R. 6, east of Ind. 19, at 2:12 a.m. Sunday.

The driver reportedly failed a blood-alcohol test and was booked at the county jail on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $1,500.

Goshen man arrested for meth making



A Goshen resident was cited on four drug charges by city police at 5:38 p.m. Monday.

According to a report by Ptl. Josh Owens, Aaron L. Buttermore, 26, 1311 S. 14th St., was arrested Monday at a house in the 900 block of South 15th Street. He was charged with two counts of possessing precursors for making methamphetamine, Class D felonies, manufacturing the drug, a Class B felony, and possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor. He was booked at the county jail and held initially without bond.

Syracuse home burglarized



The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a house burglary Monday at a rural Syracuse home.

The home of Andrew Kitson, 38, 11466 C.R. 52, was burglarized between 5:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday, according to the report. The extend of damage or loss was not included in the initial report. The incident is under investigation.

Elkhart man arrested for DWI



An Elkhart resident was arrested on two driving charges after Elkhart city police stopped his pickup truck early Sunday.

According to a report by Elkhart police, a 1989 GMC pickup truck driven by Noe Lopez Gomez, 34, 58404 Valley View Drive, Elkhart, was stopped at the 2700 block of Prairie Avenue at 2:09 a.m. Sunday.

Gomez was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving without ever obtaining a license. He was booked into the county jail.

Man booked on felony DWI



An Elkhart man was jailed on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated after he was stopped by Elkhart police at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at the 600 block of East Jackson Boulevard.

According to a report by Elkhart police, a vehicle driven by Terry R. Troyer, 33, 22067 Ind. 120, Elkhart, was stopped on Jackson Boulevard.

The driver refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test and was arrested on a felony charge as he has a prior conviction, police said.

He was booked into the county jail, with bond set at $3,000.
