COCONVIS TOWNSHIP, Mich —
Authorities say a van from Indiana went off an icy southern Michigan interstate, rolling over and injuring the driver and nine Amish farmers heading for a meeting.
The Battle Creek Enquirer and MLive.com say it happened about 9:10 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 69 in Calhoun County. The sheriff’s department says the female driver lost control, and the van landed on its roof.
WOOD-TV says weather caused several crashes at the time.
Authorities say the passengers were nine male farmers bound for a milk producers meeting in Lansing. They say two people were critically hurt.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reported the injured were Ervin Miller, Clyde Miller, Kenneth Bontrager, Milton Bontrager, Delmar Fry, Willie Yoder, Steven Lambright, Jerry Lehman, Marvin Eash and Sandra Miller, who was the driver.
The van belongs to Buggy Line Tours of Shipshewana and Middlebury, Ind. and is owned by Sandra and Bill Miller.
Police listed the injuries ranged from minor to serious and all are expected to recover, according to the Enquirer. The injured were taken to hospitals in Lansing, Marshall, Battle Creek and Kalamazoo.
Ambulances from several communities responded to the crash in Convis Township. It’s near Bellevue and about 30 miles southwest of Lansing.
