Three seriously hurt in crash

A 46-year-old man and two passengers in his vehicle were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on C.R. 40.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a 1996 GEO Prism was eastbound on C.R 40 near C.R. 13 when the driver, James Fozo, 46, Mishawaka, reportedly failed to yield the right of way to a pickup truck driven by Joshua A. Martin, 17, Goshen, who was southbound on C.R. 13.

Martin was uninjured.  Fozo was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hospital with a head and lung injury and a fractured pelvis.

The front-seat passenger in the Fozo vehicle, Brooke Stairhime, 40, Mishawaka, was taken to IU Health Goshen Hospital was a fractured neck and rib, a broken forearm, shoulder and nose. The backseat passenger, Susie Fozo, 15, Mishawaka, was transported by Samaritan air ambulance to Memorial Hospital for internal injuries. She was listed in stable condition Sunday.

meth, other charges


A Goshen man was arrested Friday night on three charges including manufacturing methamphetamine.

Goshen police were called to a vacant residence at 603 N. Seventh St. just after 3 p.m. Inside, police reportedly found several items used to manufacture meth. During the course of the investigation, police arrested Danny Mason, 21, 401 Middlebury St., Goshen, on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, burglary and dumping a controlled substance — waste.

Traffic arrests

The following motorists were arrested in Goshen recently on driving while their license privileges were suspended:

• Joshua Ramos, 18, 64541 Orchard Drive, Goshen, was arrested at the intersection of Third and Pike Streets after a traffic stop Saturday at 1:48 p.m. He was released at the scene.

• Juan C. Ruiz-Gonzalez, 23, 738 Broadmore Estates, Goshen, was arrested at the intersection of Main and Johnston streets after a traffic stop Saturday at 6:04 p.m.

• Mario Murillo, 21508 C.R. 38, Goshen, was arrested in the 900 block of West Lincoln Avenue after a traffic stop Saturday at 7:07 p.m. He was released on a memorandum to appear in court.

Drug/alcohol arrests

• David R. Brandys, 21, 555 Short St., Nappanee, was arrested in the 2000 block of Elkhart Road on a charge of possession of marijuana Friday at 8:24 p.m.

Battery arrest

Michael P. Wagner, 34, 320 Stone Drive, Apt. B, Goshen, was arrested at his residence Saturday at 1:51 p.m. on a charge of domestic battery in the presence of a minor and interfering with the reporting of a crime. He was incarcerated at Elkhart County Jail.

Residents receive a call from an individual who identifies himself from Publishers Clearing House. He advises the resident that they have won a luxury car and $800,000 in cash.

    Goshen police were called to a vacant residence in the 400 block of North Fifth Street, Goshen, at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found a 4-year-old and 3-month-old alone inside the residence.
