According to a press release from Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller, about 250 boxes of audio equipment that were seized from Elkhart County businessman Edward Dale Christner in March, 2009, were destroyed this week in Indianapolis.
Christner was accused of operating a “white van scam” and selling stereo equipment out of a vehicle in parking lots in northern Indiana. In December 2009 he entered guilty pleas to failure to collect or remit state sales tax and failure to permit examination of sales tax records, both Class D felonies. He was sentenced to probation.
The 14 pallets of equipment were shredded Tuesday by a recycling business.
The attorney general in 2009 obtained a civil tax judgement against Christner for $823,608 which the state still seeks to collect.
