Elkhart man sent to prison on felony firearms charge

Larry Hartman, 48, of Elkhart, was sentenced to 30 months in prison in U.S. District Court in South Bend last week for a firearms violation.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Hartman agreed to a plea deal for a felony charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Officers arrested Hartman after a search of his home yielded 30 marijuana plants, nearly three pounds of dried marijuana and several firearms and ammunition. He had been convicted of vehicular homicide in Ohio in 1989, which led to his felon status, according to information provided by the U.S. Attorney’s office. He was also sentenced to two years of supervised release.

Vandalism report

A representative of Goshen Parks Department reported damage to the women’s restroom at Roger’s Park on Chicago Avenue. The damage occurred Friday morning.

Battery arrest

Cory Sharp, 50, was arrested on a charge of domestic battery in the presence of a minor and battery on a pregnant female after a 20-year-old female at 411 N. Main St., Goshen, reported the allegation about 9 p.m. Friday.

Traffic arrest

Brandy Hernandez, 33, of 276 Roxbury Park, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of driving while her license priveleges were suspended. She was stopped by police shortly before 7 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lincoln Avenue in Goshen. She was released and ordered to appear in court.

OWI arrest

Michael R. Cripe, 49, 205 Mount Vernon Drive, Goshen, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was stopped by Goshen police in the 1400 block of West Clinton Street in Goshen at 7:40 p.m. Friday. He was transported to the Elkhart County Jail.

Theft/burglary report

Molly King, Goshen, reported to Goshen police Friday the theft of a postal package from her door at 112 E. Lincoln Ave., in Goshen.
