The following theft and burglary incidents were recently reported by local police:
• Robert C. Boots, Jr., told Elkhart County police someone stole his cell phone and wallet while he was working at Lippert Components, 65781 Sourwood Drive, Goshen. The incident happened between 2:15 and 8 p.m. Wednesday.
• Edward Brown, 31, 715 Monroe St. Apt. D, Elkhart, was arrested on a charge of theft at Meijer’s, 4522 Elkhart Road, Goshen, at 3:56 p.m. Tuesday.
• David T. Mercer, 52, 13425 C.R. 4, Middlebury, told Elkhart County police someone kicked open the front door of his residence and stole a television, change and a duffle bag Wednesday.
• Maria Sandoval, Goshen, told city police someone stole her wallet out of her shopping cart while she was shopping at Krogers, 209 Chicago Ave., Goshen, Monday.
• Deena M. Corbin, 37, 914 N. Sixth St. Apt A, Goshen, and Jamie Garcia, 36, 914 N. Sixth St. Apt A, of Goshen, were stopped by Wal-Mart loss prevention personnel after allegedly trying to shoplift Thursday afternoon. Corbin and Garcia were arrested by Goshen police and released with memorandums to appear.
• A loss prevention employee of Wal-Mart, 4024 Elkhart Road, Goshen, told Goshen police two juvenile females stole merchandise from the store and then fled at 3:39 p.m. Thursday. The two girls were located and taken into custody. One was released to her parents. The other was taken to the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center due to an outstanding felony warrant.
• Steven Hess, 111 E. Pike St., Goshen, told Goshen police someone may have entered his residence while he was not home Thursday.
• Paul Cox, 2910 Saybrook Court, Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole his television from his residence Thursday.
• Marcia Cox of Goshen told city police someone stole a ring and $22 from her while she was staying at a temporary residence along College Avenue Dec. 9.
Police investigate
apparent suicide
A Goshen resident contacted Elkhart County Public Safety Communications Center to report a possible suicide at 58789 Ox Bow Drive, Elkhart, at approximately 11:52 p.m. Monday. Jason South, 30, was found dead inside his residence of an apparent suicide, Elkhart County police reported.
Fraud reports
• Norma Howard of Goshen told city police she was the victim of fraud regarding her bank account this week.
• Sarah Bontrager of Middlebury told Elkhart County police someone made a fraudulent purchase with her debit card in the amount of $864.30.

Middlebury police warn of scam
The Middlebury Police Department has received complaints from local residents of a scam that is being done in the area. Residents receive a call from an individual who identifies himself from Publishers Clearing House. He advises the resident that they have won a luxury car and $800,000 in cash.

Two children found in vacant home
Goshen police were called to a vacant residence in the 400 block of North Fifth Street, Goshen, at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found a 4-year-old and 3-month-old alone inside the residence.
