Police investigating Dunlap death

DUNLAP — Elkhart County police are investigating the death of a man found burned Monday morning in the Dunlap area.

Around 11:13 a.m., sheriff’s officers were called to 58644 C.R. 111 to investigate the cause of death of a 54-year-old male. The man was found badly burned outside a storage garage at that address.

County police, Elkhart County coroner’s staff and personnel with the state fire marshal’s office were investigating the incident today.

“They’re going to try to determine the origin of the fire and what the cause of death was,” county police Capt. James Bradberry said during an afternoon news conference outside Concord Mall, which is near the fire scene. “At this point in the investigation, it’s too early to determine those factors.”

Police did not release the name of the deceased Monday pending notification of family members.
