Four Goshen teens, woman injured in collision

GOSHEN — Four Goshen teenagers and an Elkhart woman were injured in a two-vehicle collision late Saturday morning near Middlebury.

According to Elkhart County police, Alex Metcalfe, 17, Goshen, was driving his vehicle east on U.S. 20 when he attempted to turn north onto C.R. 35. Police reported that Metcalfe failed to yield to traffic in the intersection, resulting in a collision with a second vehicle driven by Karen Myers, 70, Elkhart.

Metcalfe suffered facial lacerations due to the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. According to police, three passengers in Metcalfe’s vehicle were also injured. Charles Ostergrem, 15, Goshen, suffered hip and back injuries, Jackson Miller, 15, Goshen, received a shoulder laceration, and Bret Hoke, 17, Goshen, suffered a concussion and foot fracture. Myers reportedly suffered from chest pain as a result of the incident. All three passengers and Myers were also transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Metcalfe was cited for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection.

Theft/burglary reports

• John Cornell, 912 Larimer Drive, Goshen, told Goshen police someone made unauthorized purchases with his debit cart at 1 p.m. Thursday.

• Goshen officers were informed of an alarm at the Phillips 66, 24 N. Main St., at 2:13 a.m. Saturday. Upon arriving, police noticed that a window on the southwest corner of the building was broken. During the investigation, several items were found to be stolen from the business.

• Bridgette Francis, 2932 Elkhart Road, Goshen, told Goshen police someone stole a sack of groceries she had left by her door at 2 a.m. Saturday.

OWI arrests

• Jared S. Miller, 23, 510 Danbury Drive, Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 12:29 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of Bashor Road on a charge of operating motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was booked into the county jail.

• Richard M. Kline, 48, 606 S. Sixth St., Goshen, was arrested by Goshen police at 1:49 a.m. Saturday at 200 E. Clinton St., Goshen, on charges of resisting law enforcement and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was booked into the county jail.
