An 18-year-old Middlebury man was injured during a crash early Saturday morning.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Jacob M. Kelley was southbound on Ind. 13, north of C.R. 24 when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, crossed left of center, and left the east side of the roadway, hitting a NIPSCO utility pole. Police found Kelley to be intoxicated and he reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana and synthetic marijuana. He suffered a laceration to his eyebrow and elbow and was taken to IU Health Goshen Hospital. Charges of operation a vehicle while intoxicated and illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverages are pending.
Drivers injured
in collision
A two vehicle collision west of Middlebury Friday evening left both drivers with injuries.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Michael Glassburn, 26, Middlebury, was northbound on C.R. 31. As he was attempting to cross U.S. 20, he crossed into the path of a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country driven by April Bernth, 40, of Goshen, who was westbound. The impact of the crash forced Bernth’s vehicle to slide off the north side of the road and into several large field stones before coming to rest against a NIPSCO utility pole west of C.R. 31. Police said Glassburn’s vehicle also slid off the north side of U.S. 20.
Bernth sustained a possible broken leg and fracture to her right ankle. She was taken to IU Health Goshen Hospital for further evaluation. Glassburn sustained minor injuries to his hand and was released at the scene. A 3-year-old was in Bernth’s vehicle, but did not sustain any injuries.
Bicyclist hit by van
A 67-year-old Goshen man on a bicycle was injured when he was struck by a van while on his bicycle Saturday afternoon.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Perry Yoder was eastbound on C.R. 38, west of C.R. 37 just after noon. As he was attempting to turn left onto C.R. 37, he reportedly turned into the path of a van driven by Veronica Cardona-Segovia, 35, Ligonier. Police said that Yoder hit the windshield of the van before crashing onto the pavement.
Yoder was flown by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment of possible neck injuries.

Middlebury police warn of scam
The Middlebury Police Department has received complaints from local residents of a scam that is being done in the area. Residents receive a call from an individual who identifies himself from Publishers Clearing House. He advises the resident that they have won a luxury car and $800,000 in cash.

Two children found in vacant home
Goshen police were called to a vacant residence in the 400 block of North Fifth Street, Goshen, at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found a 4-year-old and 3-month-old alone inside the residence.
