Avilla woman killed

in bicycle crash

An Avilla bicyclist was killed in a Noble County crash shortly after noon Wednesday.

Dead is Talia J. Smith, 20.

Noble County police were called to the scene of a collision between a motor vehicle and a bicyclist at Old Ind. 3 north of C.R. 400 South. Police reported that Smith was riding her bicycle northbound when she was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Kirk A. Weeks, 48, Albion.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. Weeks was transported to Parkview Whitley Hospital for observation.

Vehicle vandalized

Eang Pung, 45, Goshen, reported having windows in his vehicle broken out while he was parked in the 200 block of Brookside Manor Tuesday at 10 p.m.

Goshen police arrests

The following arrests were made by Goshen police recently:

• Ana Cruz-Gutierrez, 23, 138 Brookside Manor, Goshen, was arrested in the 2400 block of Peddlers Village Road Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. on a charge of operating a vehicle without obtaining a drivers license.

• Ryan P. Wingard, 24, 1603 Cobblestone Blvd., Elkhart, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license in the 700 block of West Plymouth Avenue Wednesday at 11:18 p.m. after police stopped him for speeding.

Thefts/fraud reported

The following thefts and fraud have been reported to police:

• Five yard signs were reportedly taken from the property of Tracy Moreland, 2109 W. Wilden Ave., Goshen between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday.

• A GPS system was reportedly taken from a vehicle belonging to Patricia Pena while it was parked in the 200 block of Brookside Manor between 1:30 a.m. and 4:39 p.m. Wednesday.

• Unidentified items were reportedly taken from a vehicle belonging to Raymond Johns, 76 Brookside Manor, Goshen, while the vehicle was parked at his residence.

• Danny Hanna, 61, 20456 C.R. 19, Goshen, reported a flat-screen television, Nintendo Wii, several thousand dollars worth of collectible coins and other electronics stolen from his residence Tuesday at 6:20 a.m.

• Unauthorized charges were reportedly made to the debit card account of Gregory Hanold, Goshen, sometime between noon Monday and noon Tuesday, according to Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

• David L. Hagen, 60, Goshen, reported $205 taken from his debit card account to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department between Aug. 9 and Tuesday.

•Aaron Miller, 19, Middlebury, reported to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department a case of fraud between July 26 and Aug. 17.

According to police, Miller received two fraudulent checks for $825 each, then deposited the checks and sent $395 back to the suspect at his request. Police found the checks to be fraudulent. Police are still investigating the incident.

Elkhart police arrests

The following arrests were made by Elkhart city police recently:

• Nathaniel Poole, 813 S. Sixth St., Goshen, was arrested at 326 Wagner Ave., Apt. D, Elkhart, on a charge of domestic battery causing serious bodily injury after reportedly striking the mother of their child early Wednesday morning, causing her to suffer a broken toe.

Poole was incarcerated at Elkhart County Jail.

• Carlos Roberto Cruz, 18, 2221 Edward Drive, Goshen, was arrested in the 200 block of Redding Ave., in Elkhart on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana Wednesday at 11:30 p.m.

County police arrests

The following arrests were made by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department recently:

• Charles W. Ransom Jr., 45, Bristol, was arrested just after midnight Thursday at 52254 C.R. 21, on charges of domestic violence, interfering with the reporting of a crime and possession of marijuana.

He was incarcerated at Elkhart County Jail.

• Jessie Meziere, 29, Nappanee, was arrested at the intersection of Bristol and Michigan Streets in Elkhart on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

According to Elkhart County police, Meziere was found operating a vehicle with an expired registration at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. An inventory of the vehicle was completed in which three Adderall pills were found, which Meziere reportedly did not have a prescription for.

Meziere was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.

• Jose Rodriguez, 40, Goshen, was arrested at the intersection of Third and Washington Streets in Goshen Wednesday at 10:12 p.m. on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

• Donald Newton Jr. was arrested on C.R. 20, east of C.R. 23 Monday at 3:34 p.m. on a charge of being a habitual traffic violator.

He was incarcerated at Elkhart County Jail.
