UPDATE: Milford motorcyclist dies in crash

MILFORD — A Milford man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Friday morning in northern Kosciusko County.

Dead is Russell P. Whetten, 54.

According to Kosciusko County police, officers and emergency personnel responded to a 911 call at 2:46 a.m. Friday in regard to a motorcycle crash in the area of 118 East, C.R. 1150 North, Milford.

Officers arrived and found Whetten in the roadway along with his motorcycle. The Kosciusko County coroner pronounced Whetten dead at the scene from blunt force trauma sustained when his motorcycle struck a pickup truck that had been partially in the roadway.

Kosciusko County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigators said Whetten was westbound on C.R. 1150 North when he struck a silver 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Charles A. Byrket, Milford. Byrket had reportedly backed his truck into his driveway to hitch a mobile trailer for transport just prior to the crash.

F.A.C.T. investigators said Byrket’s truck was sticking out into the travel portion of the roadway. Byrket was not inside the truck at the time of the collision, police said, but was apparently at the rear of the truck connecting the trailer.

The Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team was assisted at the scene by the Milford Police Department, Multi-Township E.M.S., Indiana State Police and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
