Passenger injured in crash, driver ticketed



A passenger was injured and a driver ticketed as the result of a car-truck crash at Ind. 119 and C.R. 13 at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Sharon Hochstetler, 18, 71182 C.R. 9, Nappanee, was driving a 2005 Pontiac G6 north on C.R. 13, stopped at Ind. 119 and attemted to cross the state highway.

Her car collided with a 1996 Dodge pickup truck driven by Thomas S. Clark, 39, 19499 Sunlit Blvd. Goshen, headed northeast on Ind. 119.

David Orrell, 48, Goshen, a passenger in the truck, was taken to Goshen General Hospital for treatment of back and neck pain.

The Nappanee driver was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way. Damage was set at more than $10,000.

Driver jailed



A Cromwell driver was jailed for driving without a license after a traffic stop in Syracuse early Wednesday.

According to a report by Syracuse police, a Chevrolet S-10 truck driven by Michael R. Slone, 37, 225 Baker St., Cromwell, was stopped by police at Cornelius and East Short Drive at 1:55 a.m. for a traffic violation.

The driver was found to be driving after his license was suspended. He was cited and booked at the Kosciusko County jail with bond set at $305.

Doors of business damaged



Doors were reported damaged at a Syracuse business early in the morning on Tuesday.

According to a report by Syracuse police, eight doors were found damaged at Sweet Lix, 100 S. Huntington St., at midnight Tuesday. The extend of damage was not known by the reporting officer.

Driver from Goshen arrested



A Goshen driver was arrested in Syracuse after reportedly refusing to submit to a blood-alcohol test early in the morning on May 23.

According to a report by Syracuse police, a vehicle driven by Ignacio Valdez, 23, 420 Queen St., Goshen, was stopped on Carroll Street at 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The driver reportedly refused to submit to a blood alcohol test and was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was booked at the Koscuisko County jail and bond was set at $300.

Driver arrested on alcohol charge



A Columbia City man was jailed after he was arrested by Syracuse police on the evening of May 22 in the town.

According to a report by Syracuse police, a GMC truck driven by William R. Scarbeary, 59, 4250 N. Airport Road, Columbia City, was stopped at North Long Drive, at 6:20 p.m. May 22. He was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and booked at the Kosciusko County jail. Bond was set at $550.

Warsaw man injured in crash



A Warsaw man was injured when his vehicle struck a tree at approximately 12:18 a.m. Thursday south of Warsaw.

According to Kosciusko County police, officers responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Country Club Road and C.R. 200 South.

Deputies arrived to find a 2005 Dodge Durango impacted onto a tree on the east side of the intersection.

The Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team responded to the scene and determined the Dodge Durango had been eastbound on C.R. 200 South and failed to stop at the three-way intersection prior to impact.

Emergency personal extracted the driver, Doug C. Jones, 41, 612 Lakewood Ave., Warsaw, and transported him to Kosciusko Community Hospital with head and internal injuries.

Jones was listed Thursday in serious, but stable condition.

Kosciusko County police said the crash is still under investigation pending blood and drug testing results.

Assisting at the scene was the Warsaw Fire Department, multi-township EMS, Winona Lake Police Department and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
