Man who allegedly had knife arrested

A North Webster man was arrested by Syracuse police after he reportedly brandished a knife in a fight at the Frog Tavern at 1:15 a.m. Aug. 29.

According to a Syracuse police report, police were called about a man who brandished a knife, but fled the scene of the disagreement.

Police stopped a vehicle at “Crazy Corners” at the Syracuse-Webster Road and arrested Justin Turner, 25, 5323 N. 850 East, North Webster.

Turner was charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon and public intoxication. He was lodged at the county jail with bond set at $2,000.

Warsaw driver arrested

A Warsaw driver was arrested after a traffic stop by Syracuse police at 1:15 a.m. Aug. 28.

According to a report by Syracuse police, April N. Yoder, 21, 125 N. Orchard, #3, Warsaw, was stopped while driving a 2001 Chevrolet on C.R. 250 East. She was cited for driving while intoxicated and booked at the Kosciusko County Jail. Bond was set at $550.

Tools missing

A rural Elkhart resident reported tools were removed from a building last weekend.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Eileen Nixon, 30439 C.R. 6, Elkhart, reported Tuesday that a garden tiller and a chain saw were stolen from her pole barn last weekend.

No value was set on the loss in the initial police report.

Gas leak

Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department were called to help direct traffic along U.S. 20 at 4 p.m. Wednesday after a natural gas leak was detected.

Police said a vehicle apparently struck a natural gas pipe near C.R. 31 and U.S. 20 and caused the leak.

While utility crews repaired the problem, vehicle traffic was re-routed around the site.

Couple arrested

A Middlebury couple were both cited after a traffic stop at 2:55 a.m. Thursday at C.R. 31, south of C.R. 44.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, DeWayne K. Martin, 39, 516 Red Bud Lane, Middlebury, was stopped for driving with a headlight burned out and not dimming his single headlight.

He reportedly failed a blood-alcohol test and was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, as well as ticketed for driving left of center and the headlight offenses.

A passenger, Cathy Martin, 45, same address, was cited for public intoxication and not wearing a seat belt.

Both were booked into the county jail.

Driver faces alcohol charge

Ryan Dean Bontrager, 27, 15049 C.R. 36, Goshen, was stopped while driving at C.R. 31, south of C.R. 36, at 12:24 a.m. Thursday. Elkhart County Sheriff’s officers arrested him on charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with an expired license and having improper headlights. He was booked at the county jail.

Driver arrested

Syracuse police arrested Thomas J. Xanders, 65, 1104 S. Oakwood Drive, Syracuse, at 4:45 p.m. Aug. 29, charging him with driving while intoxicated. He was booked at the Kosciusko County jail. Bond was set at $550.

Alcohol arrest

Goshen police arrested Holly Hamilton, 32, 1500 W. Pike St., after a traffic stop at Plymouth Avenue and Eighth Street at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday. She was cited for driving while intoxicated and booked at the Elkhart County jail.

Women arrested after traffic stop

Two Elkhart women were jailed after a traffic stop by Bristol police near the town Saturday.

According to reports by Bristol Sgt. Bill Lynch, he stopped a car at 11:48 p.m. Saturday after the driver failed to signal a turn and the car crossed the centerline of a road near C.R.s 8 and 27.

The driver, Jennifer M. Rhodes, 25, 25124 Snyder St., Elkhart, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while her license was suspended. She was booked at the county jail after she submitted to a blood-alcohol test. She was also ticketed for driving left of center and having a false registration on the car.

A passenger, Lisa M. White, 34, 22298 Ind. 120, Elkhart, was arrested for possession of marijuana and on a warrant from Elkhart County Superior Court 4. She was also booked at the county jail.

A third occupant of the car was not arrested.

Motorcyclist injured

An Elkhart man was hurt when he spilled on a motorcycle to avoid hitting a turning car at C.Rs. 6 and 9 at 8:42 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Charles Himes, 46, Elkhart, was riding a 2002 Harley Davidson east on C.R. 6 and a vehicle turned left into his path. He laid the motorcycle down to avoid hitting the car.

Himes had abrasions and a cut on a knee.

The auto driver was cited for failure to yield the right of way by Ptl. Andrew Ahlersmeyer, who investigated.

Goshen teen arrested

A Goshen teen-ager was charged with drug possession after a traffic stop at Eighth Street and Lincoln Avenue at 10:57 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a report by Goshen police, Javier Jimenez Jr., 19, 115 S. Eighth St., was cited for possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and released. He will appear later in Goshen City Court.

Burglary reported

A Goshen woman reported a house burglary to city police Tuesday.

According to a Goshen police report, Loretta Troxell, 38, 1007 N. Sixth St., reported at 1 p.m. Tuesday that several items were stolen from her home within the past month.

No value was set on the loss in the initial report.

Two face theft charges

Elkhart city police reported arrested two juveniles who were accused of shoplifting at J.C. Penney at the Concord Mall at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Two juvenile boys were arrested after they were accused of taking a pair of Levi jeans and a pair of socks, which have a total value of $48. The boys were cited and released to parents. They will appear later in juvenile court.

Fake money found

Elkhart police received a report of someone trying to pass $80 in counterfeit currency at a business at noon Tuesday.

According to an Elkhart police report, officials at Midwest Gun and Range, 128 Rush St., reported that at noon Tuesday someone attempted to use counterfeit cash, but it was not accepted. The business did not suffer any loss.

Teen found with pot

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a 16-year-old Northridge High School student was found with marijuana at the school Friday.

According to a sheriff’s report, Assistant Principal Gerald Rasler reported a 16-year-old student had marijuana in the high school cafeteria before police were called.

The teen was cited and released to parents. The student will appear later in juvenile court.
