Man injured in crash

A Middlebury man is in fair condition after crashing his car into a utility pole Tuesday morning.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Michael S. Todd, 28, of Middlebury, was southbound on C.R. 35, north of Claire Lane just west of the Middlebury city limits Tuesday at 7:14 a.m. when his Dodge Intrepid veered off the west side of the road and crashed into a utility pole.

Todd was airlifted to Memorial Hospital due to injuries to his pelvis and chest. No citations were issued.

An Elkhart man was injured when a dog jumped onto his lap while he was driving.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Michael O’Mara, 61, Elkhart, was northbound on Ind. 13 near C.R. 10 Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. when a dog riding in the passenger seat jumped onto his lap, causing him to cross left of center and sideswipe a car driven by Herbert Nihart, 82, White Pigeon, Mich., who was southbound on Ind. 13 at the time.

O’Mara complained of pain to his left foot and was transported to Elkhart General Hospital by Middlebury Medics.

Girl struck by car

Goshen police were called to a hit-and-run Tuesday afternoon in the 1800 block of Westplains Drive.

According to police, a 7-year-old girl, Briana Varrios, 1202 Pringle Drive, Goshen, was struck by a white, four-door car, with an unknown driver. Varrios was treated by Goshen Medics for minor abrasions and released to her mother.

LaGrange girl still critical

Updates on two local residents who were injured in crashes were given Wednesday afternoon.

Alia Villalobos, 9, of LaGrange, who was hospitalized following a crash at the intersection of Ind. 15 and U.S. 20 Friday afternoon, is still in critical condition at Riley Hospital for Children IU Health in Indianapolis.

Also, Paul Fought, 58, who was injured in a crash on U.S. 6 near C.R. 600 East, in Noble County May 31, is currently listed in fair condition at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne,

Girls arrested

Two girls were arrested by Goshen police on a charge of disorderly conduct Tuesday at 8:14 p.m. after it was determined that the two had agreed to meet at the intersection of Eighth and Washington streets to fight.

Both girls were released to their parents.

Man faces battery charge

Victor Ortega, 31, 2512 W. Clinton St. Apt. 2, was arrested by Goshen police on a charge of domestic battery in front of a child Tuesday at 9:36 p.m. He was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.

Gun, Tasers found

A bag containing a loaded gun and two Tasers was found alongside the road in the 29000 block of C.R. 20 Monday at 7:30 a.m., according to Elkhart County police.

Theft/burglary reports

• An employee of Lippert Components, 3152 Skyview Drive, Goshen, reported a burglary occurred between May 26 and Monday at 1 p.m.

• A girl’s mountain bike and a skillsaw were taken from the garage of Megan Fleming’s residence, 1202 S. Eighth St., Goshen, between 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Vandalism/criminal mischief reports

• Several juveniles were reportedly found by Goshen police entering a vacant residence located at 309 N. Ninth St. at 6:31 p.m. Tuesday.

Residents receive a call from an individual who identifies himself from Publishers Clearing House. He advises the resident that they have won a luxury car and $800,000 in cash.
