Traffic was blocked and residents in several homes were evacuated after construction crews broke a 6-inch natural gas main in the area of the Concord Mall at 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
According to Elkhart police, traffic was blocked from the Concord Mall area to just north of the McDonald’s restaurant after a gas leak was discovered.
Police said the roads in the area would be closed until the leak is capped.
Crews are installing a new storm sewer system along U.S. 33.
