A Middlebury man was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 1:47 p.m. Saturday in Middlebury.
According to Elkhart County police, James E. Lambert II, 33, of White Pigeon, Mich., was driving his vehicle west on U.S. 20, just east of C.R. 31, behind a second vehicle driven by Eric D. Berger, 45, of Middlebury.
Berger reportedly passed a tractor that was heading west on the shoulder of the road and signaled to turn south onto C.R. 31.
Police indicated that as Berger began to turn south, Lambert began to pass the tractor, striking the rear end of Berger’s vehicle.
Berger was transported to Goshen General Hospital for treatment of back and neck pain. Lambert was uninjured.
Two injured in crash near Bristol
A Shipshewana woman and a Bristol man were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 4:16 p.m. Saturday near Bristol.
According to Elkhart County police, Lee D. Grove, 73, of Bristol, was driving his vehicle east on C.R. 8, just east of C.R. 27.
A second vehicle, driven by Elizabeth A. Jones, 20, of Shipshewana, was reportedly also headed east on C.R. 8, just east of C.R. 27.
Police said Grove began to slow his vehicle, signaled, and slightly crossed left of the roadway’s center line to negotiate the turn and began to pull into a driveway on the south side of the road.
Jones stated she thought Grove was going to the west side of the road to check his mail, so she began to pass him on the right, resulting in a collision.
Jones was transported to Goshen General Hospital for treatment of shoulder and knee pain. Grove took private transportation to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of shoulder and head pain.
Jones was cited for improper passing on the right.
Hit-and-run crashes reported
An Elkhart driver reported a hit-and-run crash north of the city Thursday.
Bradley Stewart reported to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department that a black Dodge Stratus struck his vehicle at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at C.R. 5, south of C.R. 2, and the other driver fled the scene. The crash is under investigation.
Another driver reported a hit-and-run crash on the U.S. 20 bypass at 1:05 p.m. Saturday.
According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Josh Evans, 32, Elkhart, reported he was involved in a rear-end crash at U.S. 20 and C.R. 17. After the accident, the driver of the second vehicle left the scene.
Landlord reports rental home burglarized
The owner of a rental house reported a burglary at 2 p.m. Thursday.
According to a report by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Ronald Martin, who owns the house at 53629 Woodard Court, Elkhart, reported the house was burglarized sometime between Nov. 5 and Nov. 12. He is renting the house to David Lint, who was not at home when it was burglarized.
DWI arrests
• Edward Maldonado Jr., 25, 1313 S. Ninth St., Goshen, was stopped at C.R.s 17 and 18 for reportedly driving left of center at 2:45 a.m. Saturday by officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. Maldonado was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving without ever obtaining a license and false informing.
He was booked at the county jail. Bond was set at $1,500.
• Sheriff’s officers said they arrested Michelle Marie Bendix-Kent, 41, 70377 Sunrise Drive, Edwardsburg, Mich., at Ind. 19, north of C.R. 4, at 1:07 a.m. Saturday, and charged her with driving while intoxicated. She was booked at the county jail and bond was set at $1,500.
• Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Immanuel Hill, 30, 10111 Beatrice St., Osceola, at Old U.S. 33, west of Ind. 19, at 4:15 a.m. Saturday. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and booked at the county jail. Bond was set at $1,500.
• According to a report by Wakarusa police, a vehicle driven by James A. Beath, 28, Greenwood, was stopped by police at C.R. 1, north of C.R. 38, at 3:40 a.m. Sunday. Beath reportedly failed a blood-alcohol test at the Nappanee police department and was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was booked at the county jail.
