Infant hurt in crash

An infant was injured Friday night in a one-car crash south of Goshen.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a car driven by Samantha Manning, 18, of Goshen, was northbound on C.R. 29, south of C.R. 146 at around 6:30 p.m. when the vehicle slid off the road, landing in a ditch on the east side of the road and finally rolling into a field.

Manning was uninjured but a 5-month old in the car, Talyn J. Winnicki, was taken to Goshen Hospital for medical observation.



Man allegedly

drunk in court

A Syracuse man was arrested New Year’s Eve after allegedly showing up drunk at a court hearing.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Richard A. Eyer, 54, 726 E. Northshore Drive, was in Kosciusko County Superior Court III Thursday after being arrested two weeks prior on two counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Police reported that prior to the hearing, Eyer submitted to a Breathalyzer test which revealed he had a blood-alcohol content of .16, twice the legal limit for the state of Indiana.

Eyer was arrested on a charge of public intoxication and incarcerated at Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of a $300 bond.



Motorist arrested

An Elkhart woman was injured and a Goshen man arrested in a one-vehicle crash near Goshen just before 8 p.m. Friday night.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, a Dodge Dakota driven by Jorge Diaz, 41, Goshen, was eastbound on C.R. 36 near Century Drive when Diaz lost control of his vehicle. The Dakota veered off the road, landing on the passenger side.

Diaz was found by police to be intoxicated and a habitual traffic violator with a 10-year license suspension. He was arrested on the two charges. A passenger, Misty Converse, 29, of Elkhart, sustained a concussion in the crash.



Driver arrested

A Middlebury man was arrested Friday afternoon.

According to Middlebury police, Eric Mills, 27, 12612 Pine Cone Drive, was stopped on C.R. 10 east of C.R. 37 at about 4:30 p.m. and arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, a Class A misdemeanor. He was incarcerated at Elkhart County Jail.



Arrests made

The following arrests were made by Goshen police recently:

• Three 16-year-old males were arrested just before 11 p.m. Friday night in the 800 block of West Wilden Avenue on charges of illegal consumption of alcoholic beverages.

All three were released at the scene.

• Pablo Rivas, 22, 2101 S. Main St., Elkhart, was arrested in the 100 block of Prospect Drive at 1 a.m. Saturday on a charge of operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a drivers license.

He was released at the scene.

• Deanna D. Huffman, 41, 110 S. 28th St., Goshen, was arrested Thursday at approximately 4:30 p.m. on a charge of theft at Wal-Mart Supercenter, 2304 Lincolnway East.

She was incarcerated at Elkhart County Jail.

• Victor L. Benson Jr., 21, Granger, was arrested Thursday at 11:30 p.m. on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after a traffic stop near the intersection of Ash Road and Beatrice Avenue in Elkhart.

He was incarcerated at Elkhart County Jail.

• Dusten A. Hurt, 18, 608 N. Second St., Goshen, was arrested at the intersection of Johnston and Hackett roads Friday at 1:48 a.m. on a charge of illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage.

Hurt was released at the scene.



Thefts reported

The following thefts were reported to Goshen police recently:

• A wallet belonging to Robin Schaaf of Goshen was reportedly stolen from the Moose Lodge, 388 Johnston, Goshen, Friday sometime between 1 a.m. and 3:18 a.m.

• A stereo was reportedly stolen from a vehicle belonging to Brittany Wise, 19, while it was parked at 213 Crescent St. Friday between 3:30 and 7 a.m.

Man arrested on multiple charges

A Goshen man was arrested on multiple charges Thursday morning following a traffic stop at C.R.s 13 and 14.

Elkhart County police stopped Russing Cleavinger, 50, 619 Pringle Drive. Cleavinger was arrested on felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated charges, as well as an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department warrant. He was incarcerated the Elkhart County Jail.



Business burglarized

Several items were taken during a recent burglary at a Goshen business, Elkhart County police reported.

Timothy Spurlock, 38, New Paris, reported that his business, Spurlock Body and Paint, 68389 C.R. was burglarized between 4 p.m. Monday and 4 p.m. Tuesday. Several tools, paint guns, computers and other miscellaneous items were taken.

Spurlock’s red 1994 Ford truck was also stolen during the incident.



Break-in reported

Ronald Connett Jr., 21, 1012 N. Sixth St., Goshen ,reported that his vehicle was broken into and various items were taken sometime between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday.



Jewelry stolen

Jacklyn Phillips, 312 N. Second St. Apt. 1, Goshen, told city police that someone stole jewelry from her apartment some time between 5 p.m. Monday and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.



Man hurt in crash

A Nappanee driver was injured in a recent one-vehicle crash, Elkhart County police reported.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Dec. 23, Joseph Doering, 27, 451 E. Centennial St., Nappanee, was northbound on C.R. 7 north of C.R. 150, when his vehicle began to slide sideways on the ice-covered roadway. The vehicle went off the west side of the road, continuing north into a large drainage ditch, where it rolled onto its passenger side.

Doering complained of pain in his shoulder and upper arm. He was also cited for driving without insurance.
