A Middlebury man who reportedly threatened police with a shotgun in the presence of two young children was subdued and arrested at 12:55 a.m. Thursday.
According to a Middlebury police report, they were called to a domestic dispute shortly after midnight Wednesday. The responded to the home of Matthew S. Grantham, 33, 310 Bluebird Lane, Middlebury. Police said Grantham threatened officers and they used a Taser device to subdue the man.
Grantham was arrested on charges of intimidation and domestic battery, both Class D felonies, resisting law enforcement and strangulation, both misdemeanors. He was booked at the county jail and held initially without bond.
A man accused of firing a gun at Ashton Pines in Goshen is in jail this morning.
According to Goshen police, Joshua Platz, 21, 2655 Ashton Pines, Apt. 12P, was arrested at his apartment after he allegedly fired a gun in the 2600 block of Ashton Pines Drive.
On Wednesday, Goshen officers were investigating a possible intoxicated driver at Ashton Pines apartment complex, located behind Meijer on the west side of the city.
Officers said they found Platz inside his apartment. Several minutes after leaving Platz’s apartment, officers heard several gunshots coming from the area they had just left.
According to police, they made attempts to contact Platz and another person inside the apartment but got no response. The Goshen officers said they feared for the safety of the occupants in the apartment and called in the Emergency Response Team. ERT officers entered the apartment where they found the two residents sleeping inside a closet. Officers reported a handgun was found at the scene.
Both residents were taken to the Goshen Police Department to be interviewed. Platz was arrested on a charge of criminal recklessness with a firearm and taken to the Elkhart County jail.
State police say a trooper assigned to patrol the Indiana Toll Road has resigned and been charged with official misconduct and battery.
The charges filed Wednesday against 28-year-old Michael Mosier accuse him of groping a 19-year-old woman he pulled over for speeding this summer.
Steuben County Prosecutor Tom Wilson tells The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne that Mosier told the woman to get into his police cruiser and that he touched her chest and bottom.
Mosier was given a summons to appear in court on the charges. He couldn’t be located for comment as no telephone number was listed in his name.
State police say Mosier resigned Tuesday after 2-1/2 years with the agency.
According to a Goshen police report, a Goshen High School student reported he was battered by another older student Wednesday.
According to a report by School Resource Officer Mike Johnson, a ninth grade student said he was battered by a 10th grader at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday. The incident is under investigation.
Goshen police said a driver was cited for driving without a license after a crash Wednesday.
Police cited Ruben Rubio, 35, 807 N. Main St., at the 200 block of East Madison Street at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday. He was cited for driving after his license was suspended. He was not jailed.
Goshen police reported they arrested Keitha D. Talley, 35, 20911 C.R. 38, Goshen, at her home on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was cited and released.
A North Webster driver was jailed early Thursday after a traffic stop south of Goshen.
According to a report by Goshen police, a vehicle driven by Jerry Hyde, 45, 133 EMS Lane W-11, North Webster, was stopped in the 1800 block of East Kercher Road at 4:15 a.m. Thursday. He was cited for driving after his license was suspended at a habitual traffic offender.
He was booked into the county jail.
A Mishawaka driver was cited for having a suspended license early Thursday morning in Goshen after he was stopped for speeding.
Goshen police said they stopped Rodney Bell, 43, 909 Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka, at 4:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Pike Street.
He was cited for driving with a suspended license.
