Officers from the Syracuse Police Department arrested Carol Ann Garcia Cruz, 44, of Elkhart, Thursday on a charge of dealing in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, according to police. Officers said they made an undercover purchase of numerous prescription pills from Cruz in the parking lot of a business in Syracuse located across the street from a pre-school.
After making the purchase, officers stopped Cruz and took her into custody without incident, according to police. Cruz is being held at the Kosciusko County Jail.
Drug charge filed
Noble County Prosecutor Steven T. Clouse has announced that criminal charges have been filed against Juan Rose Rodriguez, 31, of the 100 block of Bowery St., Ligonier, according to a press release. The charge filed Friday in Noble Superior Court, Division I is possession with intent to deliver cocaine.
The probable cause affidavit filed with the court alleges that Rodriguez sold cocaine on three separate occasions in October to a cooperating person and Wednesday a search warrant was executed at the Bowery Street residence. Clouse said in a news release that search resulted in police finding more than four ounces of cocaine and more than $1,000.
“The charges filed today are the culmination of a lengthy investigation by the IMAGE Drug Task Force and the Elkhart County ICE Unit, as well as the Ligonier City Police Department. I look forward to the opportunity to prosecute the case against Mr. Rodriguez,” Clouse said.
Theft/burglary reports
• Diane Miller, 58198 Jefferson Ridge Drive, Goshen, told Elkhart County police someone was tampering with her front door between 4 and 6 a.m. Wednesday. The front door handle was loosened from the door, but entry was not made.
• An employee of Redwood RV Manufacturing Co., 72440 Ind. 13, Syracuse, reported a burglary to Elkhart County police that occurred between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday. Someone entered the property by cutting the chain on the security gate located at the north east end of the property. A large amount of scrap wire was stolen from the east end of the property.
• Walter Helmuth of New Paris, told Elkhart County police Thursday someone committed a fraud with his credit card between approximately noon and 4 p.m. Wednesday. Someone used his credit card numbers to purchase $491.93 worth of unknown merchandise.
• Darla Moore, 53405 Hilltop Drive, of Middlebury, reported Wednesday to Elkhart County police numerous items of jewelry were stolen out of her residence between Oct. 1 and Dec. 1.
• Travis Myers, 60037 Ind. 15, of Goshen, told Elkhart County police someone broke into his locked Ford Bronco and stole a car stereo between 12:30 and 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
• Angela LeMarr, 1101 West Ave., of Goshen, reported to Goshen police someone stole money out of her mailbox at approximately noon Dec. 7.
• A Goshen resident at 269 Woodridge Court, contacted Goshen officers in reference to someone going through vehicles at approximately 1:21 a.m. Friday. When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old male juvenile. He had multiple stolen items on him and was intoxicated. The juvenile also fled from officers after being arrested and handcuffed. The juvenile was caught and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. The teen was arrested on charges of theft, illegal consumption of alcohol, resisting law enforcement and escape.
Assault/battery reports
• An employee at Bashor Children’s Home, 62226 C.R. 15, Goshen, reported to Elkhart County police that an 11-year-old boy pushed and kicked two other employees at approximately 1:20 p.m. Thursday. No injuries were reported.
Intimidation arrest
• Oxana Werbiansky, 60, 23427 C.R. 45, of Elkhart, was arrested on a charge of intimidation by Elkhart County police at noon Wednesday.
OWI arrests
• Jacobo Mora-Adame, 39, 29200 C.R. 20, of Elkhart, was stopped for a traffic violation on Elkhart Road near Westmoor Parkway, Goshen by Elkhart County police at 3:18 p.m. Thursday. Mora-Adame was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while never having received a license and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The Middlebury Police Department has received complaints from local residents of a scam that is being done in the area. Residents receive a call from an individual who identifies himself from Publishers Clearing House. He advises the resident that they have won a luxury car and $800,000 in cash.

Two children found in vacant home
Goshen police were called to a vacant residence in the 400 block of North Fifth Street, Goshen, at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday. Officers found a 4-year-old and 3-month-old alone inside the residence.
