SOUTH BEND —
The IU South Bend Gospel Choir of the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts, featuring special guest artist Patrice Foster, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall.
David Brock is the new director of this ensemble, made up of students and community musicians interested in singing gospel music.
Formed in fall of 2008, the Gospel Choir made its debut in fall 2009. Since then, they have performed in multiple concerts, including the “Teddy Bear Concert,” “MLK Celebration” concert with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and “Lift Every Voice.” Last October the group performed “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at Coveleski Stadium as part of a special television promotion. The choir has also performed in Greenville, N.C., and Toledo, Ohio, in recent years. This year marks Brock’s third year with the ensemble and his debut as director. He replaces former director CreAnne Mwale.
Guest and gospel artist Foster is a native of South Bend and has been singing since age 5. As a student at Riley High School, she participated with the Gospel Choir and the “Choraleers” from her freshman to senior year. For two summers she was enrolled in the Interlochen Arts Camp. She works in South Bend and continues to sing in the choir at Pentecostal Cathedral Church of God in Christ.
Brock started playing the piano at the age of 6 and began taking lessons at age 11. He also began playing piano at churches when he was 11. Brock has performed in bands and orchestras throughout his education. He attended Olivet College, where he studied music.
Brock is employed at Benton Harbor High School as a pianist and assistant music teacher. He teaches keyboard theory and voice and has been playing the keyboard for 44 years.

Charlie Daniels Band coming to Shipshewana
