GOSHEN —
Two youth orchestras made up of Elkhart County musicians will perform a concert in Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and students are will be available at the door and one hour before the concert.
The concert will feature members of the Elkhart County Youth Honors Symphony Orchestra (grades nine through 12) and Concert Orchestra (grades seven through nine). The orchestras are conducted by Christopher Fashun, Kyle Weirich and Brian Wiebe.
The symphony orchestra will perform Mozart’s “Symphony No. 29 in A Major,” Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” and William Walton’s “Crown Imperial March.” The concert orchestra will perform the third movement of Brahms’ “Symphony No. 4” (arr. Meyer), Soon Hee Newbold’s “A Knight’s Quest” and “Jupiter” from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” (arr. Deborah Baker Monday).
The Youth Honors Orchestras were launched by the Elkhart County Symphony Association and are based in the Goshen College Music Center. The ensembles consist of Elkhart County strings, wind and percussion honors students selected by audition. Rehearsals are held on Saturday afternoons leading up to concerts in January and May.
