NAPPANEE —
Rogers and Hammerstein’s musical classic, State Fair, opened at The Round Barn Theatre at Amish Acres in Nappanee on May 29 and runs through July 8.
Set against the colorful backdrop of an American heartland tradition, State Fair travels with the Frake family as they leave behind the routine of the farm for three days of adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair. From the pickle judging contest to the biggest pig prize, State Fair is the kind of warm-hearted family entertainment only Rodgers and Hammerstein could deliver.
The Academy Award-winning score has some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most memorable tunes such as the title song, “State Fair,” “It’s a Grand Night for Singing,” and “That’s For Me” to name a few. At the time of State Fair’s theatrical release, the music writing duo were at the height of their career as they had just scored their Broadway smash hit, Oklahoma, which literally created the American musical.
The Round Barn Theatre’s resident Music Director, Travis Smith, takes on the proud Iowa farmer, Abel Frake along with Caitlin Borek as his wife, Melissa Frake, Matt Casey as his son Wayne Frake, and Katie Kuehner, as his daughter Margy Frake. Matt and Katie are also appearing in The Round Barn Theatre’s 26th anniversary production of Plain and Fancy, as Peter Reber and Katie Yoder respectively, which is currently running in repertory with State Fair.
A large cast of actors and actresses from across the country round out this talented ensemble. The production is Directed and Choreographed by The Round Barn Theatre’s Artistic Director, Jeremy Littlejohn with Travis Smith as Music Director.
State Fair runs from May 29 through July 8 with 2 p.m. matinees and 8 p.m. evening performances. A complete show schedule and ticket information are available by calling The Round Barn Theatre Box Office at (800) 800-4942 extension 2 or online at www.amishacres.com.
